51ST EURO-TOUR AND THE FIRST STOP IN ENGLAND

Hull, located at the northern coast of England, and more precisely the Mosconi Billiard Club, was the venue for the first ever Euro-Tour to take place in England. 83 players representing 19 countries participated. Unfortunately only 26 of these players came from the host country, and out of those only 4 represented EPA, the EPBF member. 22 of the players represented UKAPA and without entering too much into sports politics, this number firmly confirms from where to expect sports activities in England. A great opportunity to organize and promote the sport in England, together with the EPBF, was missed - a pity! Based upon this the EPBF will be left with no alternative than to seek a new partner in England, since 15 years of inactivity for sure is enough.
To the sport: Surprisingly Oliver Ortmann (D) lost out already in the preliminary rounds against Darren Appleton (GB), and so did also Alex Lely (NL) against Hundaj Rai (GB). Many of the matches ended with the shortest possible margin of 9 - 8, 9 - 7 or 9 - 6, and the event therefore was very close and exciting, underlined also by the fact that the quarter-finals saw players from 6 countries. Also the semi-finals became very exciting, in which Fabio Petroni (I) did beat Radoslaw Babica (PL) 9 - 8, and Rico Diks (NL) did beat Peter F. Nielsen (DK) 9 - 8. Leading up to the final match Steve Lillis from USA entertained the audience with his famous "Gospel Artistic Show". In spite of the prolonged break of one hour, Rico Diks proved to be too exhausted in order to perform well. Petroni controlled the match already from the very beginning and could comfortably win the "Brunswick England Open".

Hull an der Küste im Norden Englands war Austragungsort des ersten in England ausgetragenen Euro Tour Turnieres. Austragungsort war der Mosconi Billard Club im Zentrum von Hull.
83 Spieler aus 19 Nationen hatten sich eingeschrieben. Leider waren von diesen 83 Spielern lediglich 26 aus England und davon nur 4 von dem EPBF Mitglied - EPA. 22 kamen von UKAPA und ohne groß auf die Sportpolitik einzugehen, sind diese Zahlen der nicht zu wiederlegende Beweis dafür, wo die sportlichen Aktivitäten in England sind. Eine große Gelegenheit den Sport in England mit der EPBF zusammen zu fördern wurde vertan, schade. In der Konsequenz dessen, bliebt der EPBF wohl nichts anderes übrig als sich nach einem neuen Partner in England umzusehen, denn 15. Jahre Untätigkeit sind genug.
Zum Sport:
Überraschend schieden in der Vorrunde Oliver Ortmann ( D ) gegen APPLETON Darren ( GB ) England, sowie Alex Lely ( NL) gegen Hundaj Rai ( GB ) aus.
Viele Partien endeten 9: 8, 9:7 und 9: 6, waren ausgeglichen und sehr spannend, wobei Spieler aus 6 Nationen das 1/4 Finale bestritten, was ein Indiz dafür ist wie ausgeglichen das internationale Teilnehmer war. Spannung pur auch in den Halbfinalspielen: F. Patroni - I : R. Babica -Pl. 9 : 8 und Rico Diks : P.F. Nielsen - DK. 9 : 8 . Bevor das Finale startete zeigten Steve Lillis aus den USA zur Freude der Zuschauer seine Gospel Artistic Show.
Trotz der einstündigen Pause war im Finale bei Rico Diks die Luft raus. F. Petroni kontrollierte das Spiel und wurde verdient Sieger und somit Gewinner des " Brunswick England Open"
