KRETZSCHMAR – DURIŠ MEMORIAL – Interpretation

In Komarno took the traditional junior team cup KRETZSCHMAR – DURIŠ MEMORIAL on 8. – 9. 6. 2001 place. This year it was the 7th year of this prestigeous junior team cup, which is since the last year an official happening of the EPBF – EUROPEAN JUNIOR TEAM CUP.

12 teams from 6 countries were presented.

With the participation of the representatives from all the billiard federations and one representative of Komárno town the tournament has begun on Friday at 10 a.m. After the SBiZ vice-president´s, Ladislav Šrámek, and the EPBF sportdirector for juniors, Udo Wayland´s opening words the participated players and billiardfriends honoured Klaus KRETZSCHMAR and Jozef DURIŠ with a minute of silence. Following the hand over of the plagues the players devided into two groups and the tournament began.

The players played in two billiard clubs, BILLIARD CENTER „GOLDEN WEST“ and in SATURNUS. The atmosphere was really great and the players liked the standard of the tournament. They compared it with the situations at the EC. On all of the teams we could have seen the willingness to win, because the tournament is the only tournament till the EC, that will take place on 26. 7. 2001 – 3. 8. 2001 also in Komárno. From 4. – 5. 8. 2001 there will be the qualifications for the World Masterships.

On the first day the players played for a good place in their group, because on the second day they had to play for the definitive places.

The players of the Slovakian team were: Peter PÁCZER (1. BC Komárno), Milan KLOBUCNÍK (Sandberg Bratislava) and Michal KUBÁN (Trencín). The Slovakian team was the second in its group and played for the progress to the finale. In the Slovakian team also played students Zsolt DOMJÁN (SATURNUS Komárno) and Matej PLHÁK (Sandberg Bratislava). KLOBUCNÍK and PÁCZER were successful and recieved the needed 2 points, but KUBÁN lost, and so Slovakia could have played the finale for the first time.

The final match was seen by 40 people. After the score 1 : 1 Peter PÁCZER had to play against the Polish Vojtech BANEK, who won. The best player of the KRETZSCHMAR – DURIŠ MEMORIAL was the German Marcel KIRSTEN. The best player of the students became Zsolt DOMJÁN from SATURNUS Komárno.

Following the tradition, the German junior team could retain the Challenge cup, because they were able to win the cup over three years continuously, so the owner of the new Challenge cup is the Polish juniors for one year. All teams got memory plaquets.

After the interpretation the players were invited to the ceremonial table, and the most interested part of it was a fancy-cake, which looked like a billiard table. All participated people were satisfied and were showing their happiness for the meeting in the near future with each others in Komárno at the Junior EC 2001.
