1. Tournament information is available by contacting Master Billiard (718.706.6789), or contacting Tournament Director, Alexandra Dyer (646.824.9582 / adyer98971@aol.com), or online at AZbilliards.com. 2. The field is limited to 64 players. 3. The top 16 players participating in the event will be seeded in the first round of play. Seeding is based on the Billiard Digest BD Power Index published as of August 1, 2003. 4. Entry fee is $300 until August 1, 2003. Thereafter, registration is $375. 5. There is $20,000 added to this event. Major sponsors are Benedict Min, owner of Master Billiard, and Joel Shapiro. $38,250 total prize money. 6. This event is sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). Third North American stop on the 2003 WPA World Tour. 7. Tournament will pay finishing places 1 through 16. 8. Payment may be made by certified check, money order or credit card. 9. Registrations will be accepted on the day of the event only if the event field is not full. 10. Each player must submit a complete Registration Form providing full name, address, telephone number(s), e-mail address (if applicable), and short biographical statement (for player introductions). For those paying by credit card, registration must include credit card information and cardholder signature. 11. Players submitting registrations will be entered on a Player Roster in the strict order in which registrations are received. 12. A waiting list will be established and players placed on the waiting list will be notified of their position on the list. Players on the waiting list must be present at the Players' Meeting in order to be considered if a spot becomes available. While there is no guarantee that waiting list players will secure spots, players must come prepared to play, including player adherence to dress code. Players are not permitted to sell waiting list spots. 13. The draw will be conducted publicly after the Players' Meeting. All players are invited to attend. 14. Upon arrival and check-in players will be required to sign for their receipt of a copy of the General Tournament Information & Rules of Tournament Play. 15. A Players' Meeting will be held Thursday, August 14th at 7:30 p.m. All players are required to attend. 16. Players will receive one weekend tournament guest pass (general admission) for spouse or significant other. 17. All players receiving $600 or more in tournament winnings will be issued a 1099. Upon receipt of winnings, players are required to provide their social security numbers or TIN. 1099 forms will be issued as required by law by February 28, 2004. Non-resident aliens are subject to 30% withholding in accordance with IRS Publication 515. 18. Player winning the 2003 Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge will receive paid travel, lodging, and entry into the 2004 Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge event. 19. Unless otherwise stated in this document, WPA World Standardized Rules govern the event. 20. This event is double elimination. Races are to 11. The final will be comprised on one race to 13. 21. Players will be required to break from the box. Players must attempt an open break. 22. Jump cues of 40 inches or greater are allowed. 23. Players will be required to adhere to a dress code as follows: collared shirts, no jeans, no sneakers, no work boots, no caps, and no t-shirts. 24. Players will not be permitted to wear headphones during match play. Cellular phones and beepers must be turned off during match play. 25. Per the New York City smoking ban enacted April 1, 2003, smoking is not permitted in public buildings. 26. Players will be permitted two (2) five-minute breaks during a match. A player is only permitted to take a break when it is his/her turn at the table. When the Tournament Director or Referee is notified by the opposing player that the player has not returned to the table within the required time, the offending player will be put on a five-minute forfeit clock. 27. Practice tables will be provided for player use. No practice is allowed on arena tables. 28. A player will forfeit his/her match if he/she does not appear at the assigned table within 15 minutes of the match starting time. 29. Match play will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15th. Tournament charts will be available for players to see scheduled match times, opponents, etc. 30. Eight Brunswick tables are being provided for the players in the arena. Tables are covered with Simonis 860 cloth. Centennial balls will be utilized. 31. Tournament progress will be updated throughout the tournament on www.AZbilliards.com. 32. Rooms have been reserved at the following lodgings: Pan American Hotel 79-00 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst, New York 11373 Tel: 718.446.7676 Provides an airport shuttle to both LaGuardia and JFK.
