PRESSRELEASE
For this years Dynamic German Open, there was 177 players split into 2 venues. Half were in Neuwied with the other half in St Ingbert. No real surprises in the group stages with most of the favorites making it through to the knock-out stage on the winners side.
The knock-out stages were played at the Billard café Insel in St Ingbert, so some players had to make the 250km from Neuwied after they had qualified. The journey did not bother them though, they were quite happy to get straight into their matches.
In the first knock-out round, two youngsters were pitched together. World champion Thorsten Hohmann (Ger) against Switzerlands Marco Tschudi. First rack Hohmann breaks with no ball going down, Marco plays safe, Hohmann misses and the next time he goes to the table he is losing 0-8. Needless to say, Marco also takes the last frame and a great 9-0 win. The highs also come with the lows and Marco could not repeat that again, this time losing 2-9 against Christian Reimering (Ger).
Tom Storm (Swe), ranked #1 in the European rankings showed why he is still there, winning his group matches 9-2, 9-3, 9-2. Only Spains David Alcaide could push him to the line losing 8-9 with a little bit of bad luck in the last frame too.
Tom took that piece of luck and put it behind him as he again showed the skill that has put him at the top. He beat Ralf Souquet (Ger) in the semis 9-4 and the same score against a revived Thomas Engert (Ger) in the final. Thomas played his best 9 ball for over a year now and will sure be there again next time if repeating that form. Thomas beat fellow German Florian Hammer in the other semi 9-2.
With this being the last from three for the qualifying for Tokio and the World series final, Tom joins the previous winners who have qualified, Thorsten Hohmann and another Swede, Niclas Bergendorff.
